Accidents & Personal Injury

If you have had an accident or suffered an injury as a result of negligence or as a deliberate act by another person or an organization you may well be able to make a legal claim for compensation.

It does not matter whether the accident took place on the road, on the pavement, in someone else's property or at work. You have to prove that somebody is at fault. This may be easier than it sounds in many cases. In particular employers have a heavy duty to ensure the safety of their employees and to comply with detailed regulations. If they break those regulations you will have a claim.

You can recover money compensation for the injury you have suffered. You can also recover any financial loss you suffer as a result of the accident which may well include loss of earnings or a reduction in your prospects of earning in the future.

The amount you may be able to claim will vary based on the circumstances of your accident and its impact on your life and finances. We can advise on how much you may be entitled to claim in compensation and weigh this up against the cost and time involved in legal action as to whether you will benefit from making a claim.

If you think you might have a claim then come in for an initial free interview to enable us to assess the merit of the claim. We can often undertake these claims on a "no-win no-fee" basis and we can discuss that facility when you come to see us.

As your business gets off the ground we can offer our services to meet all of its needs including advice concerning planning permission, insurance, general finance, licensing and we can help with drafting employment contracts or terms and conditions for your business activities. We can deal with any other commercial agreements which might be required.

Children & Child Care

In the breakdown of any relationship between parents, the most important consideration must always be the welfare of the children. At
Redferns Solicitors, we are able to provide you with specialist advice and representation to achieve an outcome which reflects the needs of your child or children. Our expertise covers residence and contact issues, parental responsibility, special guardianship and specific issues concerning a child's welfare. Additionally, we can advise in relation to child maintenance issues and financial provision for the benefit of a child.

Damian Summerscales is a member of the Children Law Panel. He is an accredited specialist in Public Law Proceedings relating to children. He has experience representing both parents and children alike in proceedings issued by Local Authorities for Care or Supervision Orders and in relation to Emergency Protection Proceedings. We recognise that parents may feel overwhelmed by the complex and highly emotional nature of such proceedings. We will take the time to explain matters to you in plain English and discuss the options available to you. We can, thereafter, represent you both in your dealings with the Local Authority and in court proceedings.

CLS Public Funding (legal aid) is available to all parents or other persons with Parental Responsibility, who are involved in Care/Supervision Proceedings issued by the Local Authority. We will be happy to meet with you at the earliest practicable opportunity to prepare the appropriate CLS Application Form and to take all relevant details.

Consumer Problems

Sometimes things go wrong, whether it is a service provided for you or an item which you purchase.
If you do not feel that you got value for your money or a product/service which you did not bargain for, then we can help. We will be happy to meet with you to discuss the problem and then provide the appropriate legal advice.
We will consider with you a course of action and give you the practical support necessary to pursue your claim whether by negotiation, mediation, or court proceedings.
You may also find it helpful as an initial course of action to visit your local Trading Standards website which will provide you with further information. We can then work with you to pursue your claim in the quickest and most cost-effective manner possible.

Family & Matrimonial

There is nothing funny about the breakdown of a marriage or relationship between couples. Advice, assistance and representation are provided by our expert Family Law team and handled with the utmost sensitivity and understanding. We will take the time to listen and assess your situation so that we can best help and guide you towards a resolution which is in the best interests of yourself and your dependants.

We are able to assist you in all aspects of Family Law, including divorce and separation, domestic violence and the complex area of property and financial issues arising from the breakdown of a marriage or relationship.

We are also able to provide advice and practical assistance in the drafting of pre-nuptial agreements or cohabitation agreements which may serve to avoid many of the problems which can arise if things do not work out.

Every marriage and every relationship is different and we therefore recognise that the circumstances of every Client require particular, individual attention. At Redferns Solicitors, we pride ourselves upon the provision of a personal service to Clients and nowhere is this more essential than in the area of Family Law.

Conveyancing

Buying and selling houses can be a stressful and confusing process but we have the experience and understanding to help you through it quickly and efficiently.

There is a great deal of work involved in property transactions to ensure that you are legally protected and we will advise and help you with each step of that process from initial offer to getting the keys or from initial agreed sale to the money in the Bank.
We will keep you informed of progress along the way and explain what we are doing and why. We will answer any questions you may have as we go along.

You will have the personal attention of an experienced Conveyancer throughout the whole matter and the Conveyancer will be backed up by experienced and helpful secretarial support.

We will deal with all post-completion formalities to perfect your Title to the property if we are acting on a purchase.
After completion we can keep all of your important documents in safe custody if you wish for no charge.

We aim to make the property transaction as quick and easy as possible.

...and remember that our quoted fee for conveyancing work includes all the work needed. There are no hidden extras.

Landlord, Tenant & Flats

We can provide expert local advice and assistance to both Landlords and Tenants upon such matters as Leases, Tenancy Agreements and the rights of individuals under them.

We are happy to advise in respect of Council or Housing Association Tenancies, Possession Proceedings, Rent Reviews, and Disputes between a Landlord and Tenant, such as a failure to carry out repairs.

We have the expertise to advise and assist in connection with Business Leases and have developed a good reputation working with local business.

If you have a leasehold flat we can advise on problems you might experience with service charges and the possibility of taking over the management of your block or even of acquiring the freehold.

Wills, Probate & Administration

It's a fact of life, but one which we all have difficulty dealing with, until we have to. People often underestimate the importance of making a Will, but it can be one of the most important Legal Documents that you will ever deal with. We cannot over estimate the peace of mind it will give to you to know that, on your death, your estate and treasured possessions will be administered in accordance with your express wishes. At Redferns Solicitors, we have considerable experience in providing the specialist advice and drafting skills necessary to prepare a Will which meets your individual needs and requirements. We are happy to meet with you to discuss your wishes, whether this be in connection with the preparation of your first Will or the revision of an existing one to address a change in circumstances.

At a time of bereavement, many people find it difficult to address the legal consequences and the action which it is necessary to take as an Executor or an Administrator of an Estate. We are able to help by providing a complete service for Executors/Administrators which includes the work necessary to secure a Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration and thereafter to administer the Estate in accordance with the deceased's wishes and/or the applicable law.

Occasionally, disputes may arise between beneficiaries relating to a Will or intestacy. In such cases, we can provide advice and assistance in dealing with such disputes and endeavouring to bring them to a satisfactory conclusion.
In certain circumstances, it may be possible for an individual to make a claim against the Estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975. We are able to provide assistance in connection with the prosecution or defence of such a claim.
